Welcome to SDSM

The School District of South Milwaukee is comprised of four elementary schools serving students in grades 4K-5, a middle school serving grades 6-8, and a high school serving grades 9-12. In addition to comprehensive curricular offerings, each school is supported by guidance counselors, an alcohol and drug abuse prevention program, opportunities for gifted and talented students and special education services.

The needs of our 3,100 students are met by approximately 250 professional staff and over 100 support staff members. The District, governed by a seven-member elected School Board, supports its programs with an annual budget of approximately $35.5 million dollars.

Our district has a solid reputation throughout the metropolitan area as a district committed to quality education. Our reputation has been built on our comprehensive, progressive program of educational opportunities for all of our students.

Investing in our Future: Safe, Strong, Successful

The School District of South Milwaukee School Board has placed a referendum on the November 6 ballot to invest in three main goals:

Strengthen the Physical Safety of Schools and Address the Emotional Needs of Students The Board believes it must continue to address student safety. To take care of the students in our community we will         *Improve physical safety needs in our schools.         *Provide direct services to students with mental health needs and train staff to assist students with emotional needs.         *Positions to be added include professionals to work directly with students, families and staff to address student needs.

Maintain Existing Programs and Facilities Over the years, we have continually worked to develop effective and vibrant programs that meet the needs of students with a variety of career interests. At the time time, our students benefit from having outstanding and well maintained schools. We will:         *Ensure future students can benefit from the same outstanding programs and classes as our current students.         *Protect the investment taxpayers have made in the district's facilities through a yearly maintenance replacement budget.

Expand Student Learning Opportunities and Invest in the Future

We aim to increase academic success and:
*Offer personalized and innovative learning opportunities that allow students to benefit from additional support
*Provide additional staffing for increased options, teachers and program

Election Day is November 6

The referendum question asks community members to increase the levy limit by $3.8 million over a period of six years. That’s an estimated tax impact of $9 to $12 per every $100,000 of assessed property value in each of the first five years. The final tax impact at the end of six years is a reduction of an estimated $140.18 per every $100,000 of assessed property value, due to other paid-off debt.
